About the Future Leaders Academy

In 2006, ASHA developed the Future Leaders Academy (FLA) to identify and train individuals for future leadership roles in the organization. FLA has since evolved to not only familiarize professionals with the programs and activities of the Association, but to also build leadership skills that impact the broader field of school health. Since its inception, dozens of ASHA members representing various school health professions have participated in the program and many of them have gone on to serve as ASHA committee chairs or board members.

Becoming part of the FLA requires a two-year commitment. Virtual calls are held monthly and include lively discussions about leadership on the job and within ASHA. The leadership program culminates with a project and presentation at ASHA’s annual conference. Additionally, FLA members are asked to participate on an ASHA committee and invited to “sit-in” on ASHA board calls to learn more about the inner workings of the organization.

ASHA is currently accepting applications for the 2026-2027 Cohort. Apply by January 12, 2026 to be considered.
