Every School Healthy: Equity in Education in a Public Health Crisis

Every School Healthy: Equity in Education in a Public Health Crisis

December 14th, 2020, 2:00pm-3:30pm EST

Presented by Nora L Howley, Linda Sprague Martinez, Nico Connolly, Sue Baldwin, and Jeanette Elstein

How do we make every school healthy in a COVID environment? What is a healthy school when education is remote or in a hybrid form? How have school districts around the country used  WSCC to advance equity in education and health? What lessons can we learn about advancing equity in education in a public health crisis, for the rest of the school year and beyond?  Join ASHA for the first of  two round-table discussions on these timely and challenging questions. Authors from the December 2020 special issue of the Journal of School Health, on the theme, Every School Healthy will discuss how implementation of a WSCC approach, including engagement of youth and community members supported equity in education in the fall of 2020. Participants will have a chance to submit questions in advance to help shape the discussion and there will be a Q and A period as well.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify at least three key education or health equity issues that have been highlighted by the COVID-19 experience.
  2. Describe how school districts can use WSCC in support of equity in education and health.
  3. Identify at least one youth and/or community engagement strategy that can be applied by educators to support equity in education and health.
  4. Identify at least one specific step they will take to apply this session.
