Reaching Teens Curriculum
The second edition of Reaching Teens by Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg was released on June 15, 2020. Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg, an adolescent medicine specialist and the author of the award-winning professional and parenting titles, all published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. This updated edition has been enhanced to be a Strength-Based, Trauma-Sensitive, Resilience-Building Communication Strategies Rooted in Healthy Adolescent Development.
Reaching Teens embodies the core belief that the power of connection as a transformative element in people’s lives, the variable that surfaces repeatedly in research as a critical protective force in the lives of youth. This comprehensive program allows youth-serving professionals to apply the principles found in Positive Youth Development, Resilience Building Strategies, and Trauma-Sensitive Practices. It includes a multimedia toolkit using 400+ written chapters, videos, and group learning discussion processes to reinforce learning. Reaching Teens can be used by individuals or through group study.
Reviewed and sponsored by American School Health Association, a designated provider of continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. The Reaching Teens program is designated for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) and Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES) to receive up to 62.25 Entry-Level and 20.5 Advanced-Level Category I CECH.
ASHA members are eligible to earn all hours for free! Non-members can join ASHA to earn hours free.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is offering special pricing for ASHA members. Until August 31, 2020, Reaching Teens will be specially priced at $239 for ASHA members then $254 thereafter. ASHA members can login here to receive the discount code.
How to Earn CECH
To earn CECH, you will need to purchase the Reaching Teens curriculum on AAP’s website. Once purchased, you will receive instructions on how to access the chapter assessments. When you’ve completed and passed your chapter assessments, you will complete this CECH Claim form (PDF) and return to ASHA with copies of chapter assessment confirmation emails from AAP.
