Join ASHA and a national Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) trainer to learn more about ways to approach the topic of substance use with middle school and high school students. Evidence-based strategies for determining level of risk and follow-up approaches will be shared as well as tools that can be integrated into everyday use. This information will allow participants to better align services with students based on level of risk.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the rationale for SBIRT.
  • Identify screening tools and potential uses for identifying risk level.
  • Recognize best practice for brief intervention using motivational interviewing.
  • Examine outcomes and efficacy of SBIRT.
