Presented by Melissa Horn-Speck MS, RDN/LDN and Megan Parks RDN/LDN
Many negative health outcomes can be linked to poor dietary habits. Dietary habits are formed during childhood, therefore, by incorporating nutrition education into the school day, children can develop a strong foundation for a healthy relationship with food. This presentation will explore the impact that well designed standards based nutrition education curriculum can have on dietary behaviors while exploring different tools to design and implement these programs.
- Describe the evolution of nutrition education in the school setting
- Locate resources relevant to current nutrition education policy
- List the components of the WSCC Model and how nutrition education fits into that practice
- Understand how nutrition education lessons can be tied to state and/or national standards and evaluated for information retention and behavior change
