An Introduction to Secondary Data Analysis for Research on Children and Adolescents

This webinar is intended to provide a practical introduction to secondary data analysis for research on children and adolescents. The session will begin with defining secondary data analysis, followed by identifying the advantages and disadvantages of secondary data analysis, and then move to methods for selecting and processing existing data (including IRB approval, how to get data file, understand the codebook, and how to “get to know” the data). The session will end with a specific example of how to get started with secondary data analysis of YRBS data.
At the end of the webinar, the learner will be able to:
- Define secondary data analysis.
- Identify the advantages and disadvantages of secondary data analysis.
- Identify existing data sources for research on children and adolescents.
- Explain the process of planning and conducting a secondary data analysis.
