ASHA Mental Health Section

Mission/Vision: The mission of the Mental Health Section is to advocate for and promote mental health services and supports in schools to improve the health and academic outcomes for youth.

Benefits of Joining the Section:

  • Provides opportunities for professional growth including an interdisciplinary forum for collaboration and networking with other school professionals

Child Mind Institute: http://www.childmind.org/ This website provides resources on evidence-based treatment, the latest research and innovations in the mental health field, advocacy efforts, and expert blogs.

MedlinePlus is a website sponsored by the National Institute of Health that was designed for patients, their family members, and friends.  Sections on Child Mental Health and School Health provide a wealth of resources on information such as the latest treatments, prescription drugs, clinical trails, and also provides health information in Spanish. The main goal of Mental Health America is to help educate the public about mental health and mental illness.  This website provides a wealth of information about mental health including treatments, finding support groups, and medication.   

SchoolMentalHealth.org: http://www.schoolmentalhealth.org
This site offers school mental health resources for clinicians, educators, administrators, families, and students. The resources on this site emphasize practical information and skills based on current research, including prominent evidence-based practices, as well as lessons learned from local, state, and national initiatives. 

The Whole Child Education Website: http://www.wholechildeducation.org/ This website focuses on facilitating work among educators, policymakers, leaders, families, and communities to advocate for and implement a whole child approach to education.
