
Supporting Organization Resolutions
This list identifies and links to some key organizations with interests similar to the
American School Health Association that adopt position statements. No list of groups that
support all the issues important to ASHA is ever complete and additions and deletions to the list will occur
periodically.
- The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) adopts policy statements on a variety of issues related to the health of children and youth.
- The American Public
Health Association (APHA) adopts policy statements on public health issues,
including
some related to school health education and services.
- The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) takes
positions on many education
issues.
A list of its positions related to school health are available.
- The Coalition of
National Health Education Organizations (CNHEO), of which ASHA is a member, hosts an
annual
Health Education Advocacy Summit. The fact sheets from the most recent summits are posted.
- The
Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) represents state-level superintendents of
education.
They
adopted a position statement regarding school health in 2004.
- The Healthy Schools Network has a position statement on a healthful physical
school environment. ASHA
has
signed on to this statement.
- The National Association
of School Nurses (NASN) adopts positions related to school nursing.
- The National
Association of School Psychologists (NASP) issues position statements related to students'
mental health needs and to psychological testing.
- The National
Assembly on School-Based Health Care (NASBHC) maintains position statements on its web site
that address school clinics.
- Both the National Education
Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) have sites
that
track education issues currently before Congress. They are not necessarily related to school health issues.
- The National School Boards Association (NSBA)
also tracks education issues and issues positions on many
school health-related issues. The NSBA web site has an excellent search feature that you can
use to locate specific school health issues of interest.
- The School Nutrition Association (SNA) has positions related to school nutrition and food services.
