
Secretaries Encourage Schools to Prepare for H1N1Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Secretary of Health amd Human Services Kathleen Sebelius have called on schools to use the summer months to prepare and refine school "all hazards" plans, and ensure that parents make their own contingency plans.
The secretaries outline 9 recommendations to help keep students and local communities safe.

Give It A Shot! Toolkit for Adolescent Immunizations![]()
ASHA received special funding to develop an initiative to increase the number of adolescents with completed immunizations.
Working with an advisory board and using funding from an unrestricted educational grant provided by sanofi pasteur, ASHA developed
a Toolkit for school/public health nurses that includes:Give It A Shot! Toolkit for Nurses
- information about vaccine-preventable diseases,
- ways to market immunizations,
- ways to provide immunizations in schools if desired, and
- information about specific vaccines including new ones for meningococcal meningitis and pertussis.
and Other Immunization Champions Working with Secondary Schools includes:
- a 64-page manual;
- current information on adolescent immunizations;
- tips on incorporating immunization messages into your work;
- a CD that contains generic forms and handouts;
- 3 colorful posters to promote awareness; and
- a DVD featuring a parent-friendly video titled "Vaccines: Separating Fact from Fear" and a youth- friendly video titled "The Case of the Missing Shots."
