Health Education Specialist Practice Analysis II (HESPA II 2020) Findings and Recommendations to the Field

A practice analysis of health education specialists across various sectors, including school health, is conducted every five years to update and validate the contemporary practice in the health education profession. Results of the study, known as the Health Education Specialist Practice Analysis II (HESPA II 2020), provide a systematic update of the entry- and advanced-level practice in the health education and promotion field. The results and recommendations from this study help guide curriculum development and alignment with undergraduate and graduate training in health education and promotion as well as assist develop professional development opportunities.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe at least 2 changes in knowledge and skills expected of health education specialists based on the results of the Health Education Specialist Practice Analysis (HESPA) II- 2020, as compared to HESPA I conducted in 2015
  2. Based on HESPA II 2020, articulate at least 2 recommendations to the profession to strengthen professional preparation, practice, as well as outreach to key stakeholders
